This project sought the opinion of a diverse group of stakeholders to develop the future vision for the Florida Virtual Campus (FLVC), whose mission is to provide statewide access to online student and library support services, as well as serving as a resource and clearinghouse for distance learning.
FLVC’s customers included students, faculty, and staff from public and private high schools, colleges, and universities. It was important to ensure the final strategic roadmap met the needs of all the constituents.
ISF facilitated the development of a Strategic Information Technology (IT) Roadmap to help chart a course for the technology that is required to support the future of the Florida Virtual Campus (FLVC).
The resulting Strategic IT Roadmap provides guidelines for the organization’s technology environment including the necessary infrastructure, staffing, and support for the services required by Florida’s colleges, universities, and K-12 constituents. In order to leverage industry trends and the expertise of those it serves, a working group of IT and other program leadership from institutions throughout Florida was assembled to provide expertise and input into the plan.
The strategic planning effort focused on student services, distance learning, career readiness, and library services, as well as the organization’s internal operations. Development of the plan initiated with an assessment of the current state of operations and guiding strategies, before proceeding into a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis facilitated by ISF.
After the SWOT analysis, ISF interviewed peer organizations from across the nation to identify best practices and lessons learned from their experiences with technology to further support development of the plan.
The final Roadmap casts a vision for FLVC to serve as the “trusted cloud provider” for the college, university, and K-12 customers that it serves, including strategic goals and detailed objectives required to support that vision.
